Oleg Sentsov in Tbilisi

Film Screening and Discussion with the Ukrainian Filmmaker and former Political Prisoner Oleg Sentsov

In cooperation with the Ukrainian Embassy in Tbilisi and PEN Center Georgia, ADAMI organized an evening with Oleg Sentsov in Tbilisi on February20, 2020.

The film “From Crimea to Siberia - How Russia is Tormenting Political Prisoners Sentsov and Kolchenko” by the authors Anna Tsygyma and Angelina Kariakina (produced by Hromadske TV) was shown at the Cinema House Tbilisi. The film follows Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko, who were detained in Crimea during the Russian annexation in 2014 and just released in September 2019 in the course of a prisoners swap between Ukraine and Russia.

The evening was introduced by Stefan Tolz, program director of the ADAMI Media Prize, and Paata Shamugia (PEN Center Georgia).

After the film, there was an intense discussion about the Russian penitentiary system, similar experiences that Georgians and Ukrainians have with Russian occupation, and about the importance of international pressure in cases of violations of human rights and international law.
